My MA explores the interplay between individuals and their surroundings and how Environmental Graphic Design can support teaching and learning and help foster creativity.
This has required me to research initial ideas, interview the target audience in order to tailor the signage to their needs, and finally design large scale, vibrant signs which will become a permanent feature in the studio space.
Effective communication depends on the mass of common/shared knowledge however the images rely on context to bring out subtle meanings. The form, functionality and finish of a space reflects the culture, behaviours and priorities of the people within it. Space design has its own grammar that can be tweaked to reinforce desirable habits.
Through the practical exploration of creative wayfinding and relevant theoretical pedagogical study, this project highlights the importance of creative play, making mistakes, collaboration and wayward thinking in design education.
I hope to continue the pursuit in creating experiences that connect people to place.
