For this master project I’ve grasped the opportunity to work with my two passions – food and design. I firmly believe that there are some parallels between design and food and that a lot of the same tools can be used when working with these two disciplines.
I felt it important to show some of the pictures where the food, or the surroundings, are less perfect. This loosens up the books general expression and the food will look more achievable to make. This is why the book is called UN/TIDY.
The theme of the book is “Comfort food” – I want to express how one can enjoy making and eating food. For me, cooking is therapy; it makes me feel good, happy and relaxed.
One of the challenges with this project was to work with such a large amount of information, multiple design elements and to create the content. I had the chance to create a functional layout, create proper art-directed photos, and decide the book’s tone of voice.
A big part of making the content of the book has been about the art direction of the photographs. The pictures are the foundation of the book and they helped me establish the layout.
